Camp Kesem is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization run by college student leaders. We provide a support network for children whose parents suffer from cancer. By bringing kids who share this similar experience together we are able to facilitate their ability to feel loved and understood. The main component of our support network is a one-week summer camp program where the children get to spend a week away from home with their Camp Kesem family. During this time they spend time in a unit with kids the same age as them, they play camp games, sing camp songs, and regain a bit of the innocence of their childhood that cancer may have taken away. Camp Kesem GW offers two one week sessions in middle to late August and with these two sessions we hope to serve 145 children affected by a parent's cancer in Virginia, DC, and Maryland. For an insight into what Camp Kesem is all about please check out this video to see the magic that our campers are able to create at camp: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGgE6BHlOjw
