On behalf of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), we would like to take this opportunity to welcome each of you and your families back to Poolesville Elementary School. For those of you who are new to our school, we warmly welcome you.

Every year, the PTA helps to oversee the needs and development of our school. Our primary objective is to provide our school with funds, programs, resources, and services that will enrich and maximize the education of every child. To meet this important objective, and afford services that are not covered by our school budgets, we must fundraise. The money we raise helps to fund class trips, offer cultural enrichment programs for all grades, purchase needed books and classroom supplies, and a lot more.

As the new school year begins, we once again ask for your support so that we can continue making resources and learning opportunities available to our children.  Here’s how you can learn more and help:

    ·         BECOME A MEMBER: Membership dues are $15 per individual per year or $25 per family per year. This year we will be using AtoZ Directories to help us manage membership and create our directory.  AtoZ Directories directory-creation software streamlines the directory-creation process by allowing PTAs to upload their family data to a secure, proprietary database from which they can edit, update, and format family data. The software transforms this data into print-ready reports of student listings and class rosters. In addition, their App allows parents to access directory data from their smart phones, tablets, even computers, providing them the ability to call, text, email, and get driving directions directly from the app.  You will be receiving login information soon.

    • ·         VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME: The PTA is made up of all volunteers and the only way we can accomplish so much for the staff and students is by having lots of willing volunteers.  Please review the PTA Volunteer Sign Up online and find even just one event/activity that interests you.  We appreciate all of the time and talents that are volunteered every year and look forward to having you participate.

    •
    • ·         ATTEND PTA MEETINGS & Events: We invite you to join us for our welcome meeting on Tuesday, September 9th. At every PTA meeting, our principal, Mr. Robbins, gives school related updates and is available to answer questions. PTA Board and Committee Chairs also provide information and updates on fundraising and activities.  PTA meetings are the best way to keep up-to-date on what is happening in our school, and we strongly encourage you to attend as many as possible. Free childcare is available for evening meetings.  We have a full list of PTA meetings and Events on our website.

    http://www.pespta.com/calendar

As part of our going green initiative, our primary means of communication is via email and our website (www.pespta.com). On our website, you will see contact information for the PTA, a calendar of upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and other useful information. Check it out!  As a member of the PTA you will also receive regular e-newsletters from our PTA President.

As the PTA, our goal is creating a better school and a better educational experience for our children. We strive to create an atmosphere where teachers, administrators, and support staff can do their best work – and so can our children. On behalf of the Poolesville Elementary School PTA, we would once again like to extend a warm welcome. We look forward to another wonderful school year!

    Sincerely,

    Kevin Schramm, President

Only a month and half left in the school year and much to do.   Here is quick rundown of PTA related activities for May.
    • PES PTA Meeting, Tuesday May 6th, 2014, 7:00 p.m. in Room 18.   I would like to think that all PTA meetings are important, but this coming Tuesday's meeting is especially important for two reasons....

      1.  Spending money:  This year was a very successful year for the PTA.    In addition to all of our advocacy work we have provided a slew of resources to PES thanks to your hard work including over $6000 in classroom supplies for our teachers, $ 6000 in text for the reading center, $2000 for new music stands $3000 in School assemblies plus much, much more..  Due to the overwhelming success of the new fundraising vehicles such as The Golf Tournament, An Evening at Rocklands and Painless Fundraising we are blessed with a surplus a funds for this school year.   At tuesday's meeting we will discuss how best to appropriate those funds.

      2. Board Elections:  At Tuesday's meeting we will elect our PTA board for the 2014/2015 school year.   If you are interested in serving as member of the PTA board please contact myself or one of our current board members for details.
    • MEET THE CANDIDATES -  REVIEW: Last Monday April 28th we hosted our second of three County Executive Meet the Candidate forum's with Phil Andrews.  One of the recurring theme's brought up by both candidates is the that we (Poolesville) need more representation at the county level.   Well, as it turns out, this election year may be just the year to get one of our own elected to the County Council.   Running for an at large seat of the County Council is Dickerson, MD resident Beth Daly.   If you are able please mark your calendar for Thursday, May 22nd 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Cugini's for  meet/greet/fundraiser to support her campaign.  This is our chance to get someone from the Ag reserve at the big kids table, lets do what we can to support.
    • PES Community Service Project:  This Saturday, May 3rd, be at PES any time between 9 and 5 and help us landscape, clean and repair our elementary school grounds. SSL hours available! The PES Community Service Project has arrived! Bring work gloves, rakes and your good attitude! Anyone have a heavy-duty gas powered hedge trimmer? We also need power washers.Lunch will be provided.
    • PES Parents - VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED

If you haven't signed up to volunteer at the book fair please do so today!! We still need volunteers to help the kids during the day, at the GRAND event, and volunteers to do the book talks. The book fair is a lot of fun and we need your help to make it a success. Thanks in advance for volunteering!
